"As far as insurance goes, when my other crops came in at average, I was over the payment minimum and in the black but not by much on those acres. About the only thing I could have done differently would have been not to enterprise, but I would be looking at a major increase in premium that we deamed it not feasable (maybe it was in hindsight)."

That is what was going thru my mind.  Remember, the purpose of crop insurance is not to make money - it is to cover the risks that you can't handle yourself.  If you can handle the risks, then you don't need crop insurance. You need to see crop insurance (if you need it) as a cost of doing business.
