cropsey, il 61731 | You have to admit that last year didn't make sense based on history - very late planted, good rains but very light on GDU's (I remember that really well after working on a truck in this year's heat), many hybrids were not mature before the killing frost, low test weight and high moisture at harvest, etc. None of these factors led me to believe that I would have my best average yield ever. So, before we get too hard on ourselves it's important to remember we didn't have much reason for optimism except for the nice rains.
This year there are more spots with nothing growing - that digs into the average. There will be some really good corn and it all depends how much there is to offset the drowned out/stunted corn. Hope to be pleasantly surprised.
