Subject: Re: Raven Phoenix 300 with Slingshot Modem

Many folks are asking this question presumably because of the solid performance of the Field Hub in poor coverage areas and through cellular handoffs, reconnects etc. The speed of the Field Hub is also the maximum supported by the cellular carrier in whichever area it is deployed. Some of these benefits are a result of the physical design of the Field Hub and antenna system, and some are a result of the Slingshot backend system that communicates with the Field Hub. Obtaining corrections is a process that is completed by the Slingshot backend servers and not the actual Field Hub. The Field Hub does not connect directly to a CORS network, it is a communications platform. Some devices are purpose built to connect directly to NTRIP Casters. The Slingshot Field Hub is a different class of device constructed to facilitate communications of all types. It is probably more accurate to think of the Field Hub more like a Cable or DSL modem connection.

To summarize, you can connect the Field Hub to anything with an Ethernet port on it, but obtaining corrections directly on the Field Hub requires use of the Slingshot Servers.

To address your concern of extending coverage where a Slingshot base does not exist you can get a CORS subscription from your Slingshot dealer versus a Slingshot Base Station Subscription. Currently the Slingshot servers connect to virtually all CORS/VRS network providers.
