Gold could service a purpose to survive if you run out of food and need to buy more, and your paper money is now worth 1 penny to the dollar.

Same could be said for diamonds.

All man kind is trying to do is convert a quaintly of wealth into a tradable, mobile object.

What does not make sense about that?
