| Hi Jay, I am the engineer who designed the Slingshot CORS solution. Here is what makes the Slingshot CORS solution different.
The Slingshot Servers make and intelligently manage the connection to the CORS network casters using NTRIP. NTRIP is a protocol that works very well over reliable connections (wireline) but is less than ideal over wireless connections. The connection to the Field Hub is done using a more robust and wireless friendly protocol. This has several advantages including, less airtime usage, more robust traversal of cellular hand-offs, lower latency, quicker coverage outage recovery, less packet loss, etc. Slingshot also maintains enterprise grade server infrastructure with full redundancy at a separate locations designed solely for maximum reliability.
The Slingshot Field Hub continuously monitors it's wireless environment and reports this Telematic data to our Slingshot servers. This allows us to help support users in the field. Our service people can remotely diagnose and escalate problems on your behalf because they can accurately assess your situation from a wireless perspective. This has proven invaluable when cellular problems are discovered and need to be escalated to Verizon, AT&T, etc. Slingshot can provide an entire wireless profile including location of the problem directly to the right folks inside of the wireless carrier. By the way, the Slingshot folks do the escalation for you if a wireless problem is determined. Firmware updates and enhancements are all pushed wirelessly to the Field Hub and if a situation like the Alltel/Verizon/AT&T situation occurs then we understand and implement the solution on your behalf.
Slingshot Support are also your advocates to work with the CORS network providers directly. They notify of outages and problems as well as determining optimal mount point selection and networking configuration.
Slingshot is a platform designed to launch reliable wireless solutions of which the CORS RTK is one. Slingshot subscribers will continue to have additional features and benefits available as the system grows.
