Little impact on shipping as the majority of container traffic comes from China/Asia into the port of LA/Long Beach with containers shipped by rail across the US. Port of LA/LB handles more containers than the rest of the ports combined. Alternatively, containers ships can pass through the Suez Canal and hit the eastern ports of Norfolk and Savannah, travel just takes 5-6 days longer. Ships going through the Panama are dropping in Houston or SA ports. Only ships needing to go through the gulf are toursits ships and they can change their itineraries to avoid the slick. Fishermen and outfitters will take the brunt of the pain.
