Subject: Maybe Churches go to the well a few times too many?

Little River, TX
Tithing is a good thing, unfortunately churches seldom appear to be able to live within the limits set by the available tithe moneys.
Then comes the impassioned pleas for money to cover a new building, church bus, church van. youth activities, orphans and widows, bibles for graduating high school seniors, and the trips to the well just continue.

I know of several churches that became greedy and killed the golden goose. One had a building fund, and one neighbor felt so strongly about needing a new sanctuary that he made a sizable donation, to the building fund. One day the church woke up with a brand new Church Van. Paid for out of the building fund. Resulting in one very unhappy church member reevaluating his giving. He ended up  gaving less than the usual tithe amount until all of the generous contribution to the building fund was accounted for. Something like $1 a week for enough years to account for a $20,000 or $30,000 contribution.

Another example, a Doctor who on a regular basis gave well more than 10%. His Daughter was married in that church and he was sent a BILL for rent, cleanup and miscellaneous cost, before he had time to make a donation for the event. His planned donation would have been larger than the amount of the BILL, by a good bit. Result is his family found a new church home before the month was out.

The list could go on. The moral of the story is if a few members of the church have a great idea for the church then they should fund their pet project, themselves. If other wish to join in, all well and good, but the Church Body should not be tasked with the funding.
