Subject: RE: PF 3000 with Raven 440

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
In order for this situation to work properly two way communication must exist between the PF3000 and the Raven 440. You need the special serial cable from Ag Leader to Raven for this purpose.

At times, the communication must go from the PF3000 to the Raven. This is necessary so that the Raven "gets the proper target rate at the proper time and place."

At other times the communication must go from the Raven to the PF3000 in order to show the current applied rate, swath width etc. to log properly.

If you are not seeing the current Swath Width and logging information back on the PF3000, the communication in that direction is not happening.

In order for the communication from the Raven to the PF3000 to work properly four things need to be setup on the Raven. 1) BAUD rate must be set to 9600, 2) Trigger must be set to "1", 3) Units (trigger) must be set to SEC and 4) Data logger must be ON. Putting these four settings together means that you have instructed the Raven to send out it's information each 1 second at a BAUD rate of 9600. All four values are important.

To prove to yourself that the two way communication has been established use the following tests. Display Swath Width on the PF3000, with the Master Boom Switch OFF, the Swath Width on the PF should show zero. Turn on the master switch and watch the PF3000's Swath Width, it should change and correspond to the Boom sections selected on the Raven. If this works communication from the Raven to the PF is OK.

The other test is to set the PF3000 up to show the Target Rate. Have the Raven display RATE 1. As you manually change the Target Rate on the PF you should see the RATE 1 value on the Raven change. By default you will hear "4 beeps" to alert you to the fact that a new rate has been received. This alarm can be silenced if desired.

From your description I'm quite sure that the Raven has not been setup for the proper communicaton back to the PF. The fact that you are apparently not seeing the current Swath width nor logging is consistent with this diagnosis.

At times, the applied rate displayed on both units may not exactly match. This is because the PF actually recomputes the applied rate itself. This is necessary so the PF can accurately split up your field into regions if you desire. In many cases, the ground speed for the Ag Leader is coming from GPS where the Raven may be getting its speed from another source. These differences are usualy minor and can easily be ignored.
