I had the old cheapie gas grill years ago. I made a big 'cookie sheet' out of aluminum foil and started grilling away. It was 'guys weekend'- My mind wasn't clear that morning and the grill was on a slope. Eventually the grease pooled up on one corner. The spill dwarfed the BP leak on scale. Once the fire started I turned off the gas and went for another beer.
There was NOTHING left after the fire. The grill was fine, the aluminum in tact, but not a morsel of bacon to be had! We had to get by with eggs and ham that morning.....
