WCIL

Thank you for being a teacher. So many on here are ready to attack anyone who teaches or has anything to do with schools. After serving on a school board I have seen many of the problems you have seen. I had many sleepless nights after a closed session.

Things I hated while on the board. We had to pass the prevailing wage. We always voted 4-3, The members of teachers union negotiated their salaries. What I mean is the members of the negotiating committee literally figured percentages based on their salary. When we agreed to a 4.5 percent raise some teachers got a 6.2 while others got a 2.9. The state mandates. When we're required to vote them in whether we could afford them or even wanted them. No child left behind. Testing a different class every year. If one class was heavy sp. Ed. the class as a whole would not meet expectations. Even thought most of the class exceeded standards.
Overall, I do believe most teachers are very dedicated and care deeply about their students. As a special education teacher I know you are a very caring teacher. Keep up the good work. I'm sure you are making a difference in some kids lives.
