New Mexico
away from "old style" petro stuff.
That process is ongoing and market driven ( Ethanol...though just a fuel oxygenate is somewhat of a govt lead example of the change process ongoing ) .

What many might fail to see is that if mechanical tech is not oil based, then it's simply based on something else.

In the past that may have been say steam, liquified coal or etc.

Now...who knows? could be anything or more likely, Several OTHER things.

Keep in mind, it only took the usa a couple years to come up with a nuclear bomb...and that was in the 40's.

Cheapest source of global energy is in fact perhaps a yellow cake pellet ( approx 3/8" x 1/2" )...only takes one of em to drive a vehicle right at 15,000 miles. THAT is real energy density btw.

Granted the afore is SOO cheap that no cos ( or parts of dc govt ) really know how to posture their operating diametric profitably to thus make something like that available to the public.

Other things like cars in the S...photovolt paint now on some of those ( Tesla Motors )..thus charge themselves.

Solar...have been examples set up now which actually not only produce electric, but also strip one oxygen molecule off CO2...thus ouput is Carbon Monoxide Liquid Gas ( one of the better liquid fuels there is btw ).
