Lapel, In
Some comparisons , but not a lot, I am afraid. The real problem is in thinking government can create sustainable jobs for starters. It wouldn't matter if the government could create 30 million jobs. The plain truth is there is too much disparity between what 3rd.world country workers can survive on and what American workers will accept in wages. Even with far superior efficiencies we enjoy in manufacturing, those other countries can overwhelm any advantage we have by the shear number of workers that will work for what we call a non stainable wage. Its a matter of the lack in balance among the economies of the world.

The disparity in manufacturing among competing nations didn't exist in ancient Rome. Then there was the influence of lead plumbing on the Roman elite that some say contributed greatly to Rome's demise. Many went raving mad from the effects of lead injested in their drinking water. Others would tell you that it was a judgement of God that lead to their downfall, considering 12 of the 13 Emperors were homosexuals and believed themselves to be gods, counter to God's First Commandment," Though shall have no other gods before Me. FWIW.

In other words, we are screwed.
