Southwestern Texas Panhandle | I was greatly disappointed today when I got a call from the FSA about my SURE payment. I had it calculated by my insurance agent & he had a lobbyist group look over it and thought it looked good. I was expecting $50,000 payment under program. Well today I found out it is going to be $13,000. My understanding is that they do not allow you to use your plug yields. Being a dryland farmer in West Texas it's not unusual to have several 0's on your yield history. Well they count them as 0 versus the T-Yield that is plugged and used on every other program. I had a place that I've only farmed two years and my cotton was hailed out two years straight so I have a 0 yield so there would be no payment on that place either. I lost over 800 acres of wheat & 150 acres of cotton and this is what I get--that was a 100% loss of every single crop on my farm... These politicians have really lost sight of what the disaster programs are for. | |
