My worry is that if we burn all these bridges with the EU, Australia, Canada, Mexico, if god forbid bombs start flying our way, we don't want to be standing alone. A trade deficit isn't the end of the world or America. Since after the industrial revolution I'm pretty sure we've been a net importer, not a net exporter. Meaning, we've imported more than we've exported since the days of horseback and candlelight.
Edit: With the exception of energy starting in 2019 (was 1949 since that last happened) and in agriculture. We've always been a net exporter of ag.
We are not a net exporter of agriculture products anymore as of a few years ago. |
