Subject: Weak ground = increased amp draw?

I was going to guess switch, but you took that out of the equation.

Could a bad ground cause a voltage drop and a corresponding increased amp draw? Maybe check voltage reading from motor supply (at motor-side of supply plug) across to motor ground wire?

Just a guess.
