I know for a fact a 3406E Cat will run with water in the oil for quite some time, even pulling loads. The fact that an engine usually is long overdue for an overhaul by the time you're putting that much oil in the water may also be a factor. But in the number of engines we have overhauled that we bought with water in the oil, I've never saw spun bearings from strictly water in the oil.
Would you change the engine oil?
