Sounds like the guys that I see doing 2 trips are putting on the second too soon. 

I have see guys in really wet years apply some liquid fertilizer near flag leaf time (maybe before) and the amount of leaf burn that it caused seems like it would decrease yield. Do you get much leaf burn when applying your last app?
