Subject: Cover crop rye to pasture and replace for harvest to pasture

SW Iowa, Clarinda
Southwest iowa. I have 109 acres of pretty decent hill that's been row cropped for 30 yrs going back to pasture. J
Has cover crop rye and will seed to pasture mix by may 15th. Since Rye has the ryezome that suppresses weeds, should u terminate the rye with spray or should I no till drill the pasture mix in and bale the rye off at 3 ft height. My thought is that pasture mix is gunna struggle with the rye competition. Rye was planted late and is only 2 inches tall now with 56 lb per acre seeded. Has had cattle on it too all fall winter and spring.
Scenario #2. Taking 90 lb/acre seeded rye to harvest in July. Then seeding in fall. Should be about 3 months of dwell time in there between harvest rye and fall seeding. Should I plant a cover crop of turnips or something during dwell? Pretty good soil here, 86 csr dirt.
I have used the rye and it.makes great cow feed.in past.
Just curious your thoughts
Thanks in advance
