| The decline of the small town has been going on a long time.
Before my time, there was a John Deere dealer, IH and Allis dealer in town. Also several gas stations and 2 grocery stores.
When I got old enough to remember, it was Allis and IH. I barely remember 2 grocery stores. I do know where the John Deere dealer was because a little sign was still by the door.
A shoe store, a hardware store ,a bank, the coop, a Vet, and a bar also.
I remember 2 gas stations, but I am not sure if the one was open or not in the 60's.
Most of those went out in the 60's and 70's.
Now we have a bar, a bank, a car dealer and a nonprofit tourist trap. There is probably a couple drug dealers also.
I do think there is a place to stay overnight also.
There have been several attempts at business but it seems they all give up. | |
