Sac & Story county IA | My neighbor has a test deal that will read pounds pressure and gallons per minute. That is needed to diagnose whether pump or motor is at fault. A person can make such a thing, sort of. A tee with gauge, a globe valve of adequate pressure, a flow meter that looks like a rain gauge. Those things plumbed in line. Start with valve open, gauge near zero. Start closing valve till gauge goes up. If you get to where pressure is adequate to do job and flow is still near where it started, pump is good. Flow meter must be behind valve and gauge and not see much pressure. The hard part is not having oil to operating temperature. Cold oil will make pressure better than hot. Hard to get oil hot without doing actual work.

Hagie used those flow valves to control pump speed for a long time. It will work, just figure out what is bothering. | |
