Funny thing about history where the problems "you" experienced are almost always the "worst"
I doubt anyone should argue that the 80s were worse than the 30s around here
No one left to remember, but I remember hearing that the 1890s depression was pretty bad in a lot of places
Maybe gofurit can fill us in on some details about how the 80’s were worse than the 30’s.
The 80’s might have been stressful for some but I don’t remember anyone starving. All these guys saying you or the wife had to find off farm work to make ends meet just proves that it was possible to find off farm work, and it actually paid well enough vs personal expenses to make ends meet.. People that hadn't overspent so they had some cash on hand did REAL well, double digit CD returns, and then after a few years of that, any farm asset they wanted to buy was at fire sale prices. TBH, some things about the 80’s sound pretty awesome.
My dad always said he didn’t really notice anything bad in the 80’s, but he’s always been pretty conservative, maybe sometimes too much so, he kicks himself for passing up the chance to buy certain farms for like $350/ac 25-40 years ago! He started farming in high school in the late 50’s, and I don’t think he’s ever had an actual operating loan!
