 Central Nebraska | Everything Lance says is correct. I'll try to add to it. 2.4 ghz will do what you want but is much more prone to interference. That could come from things in your house, the target location, something in the path of your signal beam, or something several miles away. Generally, that band is avoided by professional installers because of that. But if you are in a rural location you can probably get away with it. 5 ghz offers much faster speeds and the frequency is much less congested. This is because it has more channels available and it doesn't penetrate obstructions as well so. I have (had.....its broken at the moment) 5 ghz links going several miles capable of handling several hundred Mb/second. The link was in place for 6 years without maintenance but I have either a bad radio or power supply on top of my tower. |
