s.c. north dakota | Back in 1984 we bought a Cancer Aid insurance supplement policy. My Dad had been diagnosed that year so it was on my mind and i was a bit naive when it comes to insurance. This is one of those where after so many years you get your money back, which we did in 2004. Well, at that time we took out another policy with them that we get the money back in 2029. Fast forward to now, we are both 67 and my wife had a sore on her leg that wouldnt heal so made a appointment with a dermotogist but had to wait 4 months to get in. When she did get in, they discovered that the cancer went to deep to get with surgery, it was recommended that we go to Mayo, 10 hours away. We have made that trip 5 times now, I have contacted our agent and he wasnt much help at all. He says that our policy doesnt cover for skin cancer! She has been taking Immune therapy treatment because she is a kidney transplant recipient and regular chemo is hard on the kidneys. The agent says now that they dont cover or immune therepy, something about it being too new. While we were at Mayo, she developed a spot on her other leg so she had surgery done on that and that healed up nicely. The funny thing is, I was told that they dont cover skin cancer but Washington did pay $1000 toward that surgery. which is something i guess. And after her recent PET scan, they found a spot in her lymph node. So its not just skin cancer any more, and the immune therapy isnt doing much to her cancer so the last treatment they added more regular chemo to the treatment. but if they dont pay for skin cancer, why did they pay for the surgery? and now with the change in the cancer and the change in chemo, how can they still refuse to pay? i looked up this company and there are about 50 to 1 negative comments about the record of this company. I still have 4 years to go that I before I get my premium back but it going to be really hard to write those last few checks. If I quit paying now, I onlyget 65% back, So I almost have to follow thru. If you have a policy with Washington National, I urge you to read it over. | |
