I was at a meeting yesterday, and a local egg producer was there. I asked if/when they will develop a vaccine for this bird flu. He said they already have it. However, if the industry starts to use a vaccine, they will lose their export market. So, right now, it will cost less to depopulate infected flocks than to lose the export market. Maybe that will come to a head. It was said yesterday that initially processors would make known where the infected flocks were located. However, media and PETA-type people would show up and try to stop the depopulation of flocks. So, they have quit making those locations public information. I have to wonder if people against the process of depopulation are going to push the industry to vaccinate flocks. |
