NW IL | That's an interesting way of looking at it. At the household level we "export" steers to get butchered, then "import" the cut meats, because butcher the next town over can do it quicker and cheaper than we can. However we drink our own raw milk and grow a fair chunk in our garden.
We "import" tractors and fuel from the dealer and coop and "export" corn to the elevator.
There are some dealers farmers would never "import" from. And some elevators they'd never "export" to due to some negative past history or failure.
Everyone is pretty comfortable with those arrangements.
But once you cross into another country perceptions seem to change. | |
