| You can zoom in and think of this at the State, County, or household level even. We could all grow all our own food and make all our own homemade tools. But if we all trade with one another, we all will end up being more productive and having a higher standard of living.
I pay more to buy a lot of things American because I trust the quality to be better. But a lot of things it just doesn't make sense to buy American because the quality is not different enough to justify the cost to most. Clothing for example.
Importing goods is not promoting another country over our own - it is freeing up our own nation to produce higher value added products. It is also freeing up consumers to have greater buying power, thereby growing our domestic economy faster. | |
