East Central Arkansas | One thing needed to be understood is the terms used. When I think of true flood irrigation I would be referring to pulling levels across the grade or following the contour to actually flood the area like when growing rice. These days that is mostly for growing rice but can be used to flush water through other crops. In rice production the levels are planted to rice.
Most of the precision leveled and even fields that have good natural lay use furrow irrigation where the row direction runs up and down the grade. We bed the ground in the row direction needed for water to run down that row middle.
We do normally get a good bit of rainfall here but if we don't get it when we need it especially in the hot of summer the crops suffer pretty fast. We can go from too wet to too dry in two weeks time. | |
