NENE
I have used hydraulic unloads for many years with great results. I have splined couplers on the augers and several hydraulic motors that can be easily moved bin to bin. If you have a tractor running an auger anyway it's a no brainer to use hydraulics IMO. Way cheaper and more dependable with variable speed to boot. Nice to be able to slow everything down when cleaning out. The biggest auger I run is a 10" U trough unload with a power sweep in a 48' bin. That will about max out my system but I like it a lot. You do need a tractor with decent hydraulics but it doesn't have to be anything special. I usually use a 4440 or something like that. I started by using Feterl hydraulic motors from their hydroswing hoppers and everything is designed to accept those motors. They use a 1" splined coupler and the only problem is the couplers will wear out eventually regardless how well supported the motor is. If I started from scratch I would use something like a 540 PTO coupler. You can buy hydraulic motors with a 540 PTO output shaft. Another plus with hydraulics is if you have more ground clearance without a pulley in the way
