I would be very cautious to do a repair this time of year. My luck with repair has been zero so far. I was never able to get the rubber plug out of the bottom. Would hate to have an unfixed hydrant that leaks and cant be shutoff or dug up.
Put the new one in with a hydrant assist kit so it can be repaced without digging or that is the hope anyways.
