![](http://www.newagtalk.com/mapdots/hudguard.jpg) SW Ohio | I would have no trouble doing that on my drill press or knee mill, but if it is in a bad location I could use my Hougen mag drill with no problem. On holes 1/2" or bigger I really like to drill a smaller hole first as many larger bits have a large "land"(not sure of term) on their tip that makes a virgin hole much harder to do. I have a pack of 1/4" split point bits for that purpose and they work great. I agree on wanting to drill both sides at the same time, just have to be sure the piece is square to the drill. If you need to stick a mag drill where there is no good surface for it, you can tack weld or clamp a bigger piece for it to sit on. If drilling sideways or upside down, use the safety chains, you don't want it to fall and crash. Most mags I have looked at will travel more than 2" so that should not be a problem. | |
