I'd wonder if the ones with a thermostat are higher wattage? I'd want a couple hundred watts to warm up in an hour or two. A battery won't heat up as fast as an engine will, but even getting it 40 vs -20 makes a huge difference in starting. Cover the top of the battery also. No block heater or magnetic heater, but a heater hose or radiator hose heater will work, or even one hose from a tank type heater into a port in the block.
