Middlesex County, Ontario
The area moment of inertia is what describes the capacity of a cross-section to resist bending.

The formula for the moment of inertia of a rectangular cross section is bh^3/12.

For 6” wide by 4” tall that’s (6x4x4x4)/12=32

For 14” wide by 3” thick that’s (14x3x3x3)/12=31.5

The two proposed dimensions have basically the same resistance to bending if made from the same material.
