Germany, Cottbus | Hey.
I feel the same way. Its always interesting to discuss and compare different approaches, observations and phenomena.
In our places, we started with the lower side of the recommendations aswell. Soilsamples and tissue samples told us to go
higher. In oilseedrape we had quite some trouble getting in the boron because it is kind of a habit to apply lime in front
of seeding rape, since it is a heavy calciumfeeder. We ended up putting on up to 7pounds of actural boron to the acre
as soilfertilizer and foliar without doing any hurt.
And, we also do not have lots of rain. Something about 20inches per years seems to average out. As we tend to have ligth
soils with cec of 10 beeing the max , we still seem to have some movement of boron in the ground. But whats
really going on with it is hard to tell. It is said the more lime you put on, the smaller is the chance of boron going down the profile.
So this means that lime is fixing boron and building humus and soil life aswell. At least thats my feeling.
I just can encourage you to do more trials on your own on your farm. If you dont see any results despite the fact that tissue-test
tell you that you have a shortage, just put more on to get a feeling.
