| We've been to all 3 and liked each one. All 3 have beautiful beaches and are warm enough to swim in the ocean year round. Though there are a few resorts where you could stay the whole time, these islands are best suited for renting a car and exploring different beaches and restaurants. You drive American cars on the "wrong side" of the road. The driver is on the shoulder and the passenger on the center line. A little hairy at first but you get on to it quickly. We rented beach front condos from vrbo and were happy with them all. The people that live there are friendly. We almost never felt unsafe, but we aren't out and about late at night either.
St Thomas is the busiest/most crowded. Lots of cruise ships stop there. There is a car ferry from there to St John which makes a great day trip.
St John is probably the most beautiful but also the most expensive. We haven't ever stayed there but did visit it for a day the times we stayed on St Thomas.
St Croix is now our favorite. It is the biggest and also the least populated. You definitely need a rental car there as things are spread out. It is also a cruise ship stop but not near as many as St Thomas.
We haven't been down there for a couple years but hope to return someday. Email is good if you want more details.
