Waldron, MI | Plant beans as soon as the ground is fit to do so. I've been experimenting with ultra early bean planting. Last year planted 75 acres on March 25 right on the Ohio-Michigan state line. It was too wet the whole month of April so didn't plant any more until the first week of May, finished around the 20th of May. The March beans were easily my best at 81 bushel per acre. the early May beans were in the high 60's to mid 70's and the last planted beans were in the mid 50's. I believe the planting date is the single biggest driver of soybean yield that I can influence. Some year I will probably get burnt and have to replant but so what. 100% replant on the seed and I'll plant them when they would have gotten planted normally. It is a little nerve wracking watching beans take 5-6 weeks to come up though. | |
