Lots of good advice here and several great resorts mentioned. We've been to the area many times and you need to consider budget and what exactly you are looking for. Some resorts are much more laid back, some more party oriented. Do you want adults only? Secrets Maroma was mentioned, we've been there 4 times and it's more laid back, adults-only, great service, amazing beach and good food. It's a bit more isolated if you are wanting to get off the resort much. Riu Palace Riviera Maya and Riu Palace Mexico are both very solid choices. We've been to both and are returning in March. They are located in a gated community with several other resorts along the same great beach. Good food, buffets are really good. More reasonable in price most of the time. Small shopping center across the street and close enough if you want to walk into Playa del Carmen you can for more excitement. Tons of choices in the area. Read some reviews. Have fun...and remember in the words of Toby Keith " what happens down in Mexico...stays in Mexico"....lol.
