Amherst WI | Have they got any additional protein at all yet? With the information you provided I’m already concerned they might be stunted if they haven’t.
With ear corn you might not have to feed any hay since you’ll have fiber from the husk and cob.
“Here” if the cattle don’t come preconditioned already I’ll start them out at 5# of corn a day and gradually work them up to as much as they’ll eat over a 10-14 day period and they will do fine in that. Keep hay in front of them at this time as they will need to transition from a forage type diet to a grain based diet.
You’ll want this diet to be about 14% protein now which you can feed soymeal or DDGs in you corn mix to get there. | |
