Pictures are hard especially when not from behind the cows but they look plenty fed. But in your situation there wouldn't be much other way to do it differently. I just can't sit here and say that a growing teenager needs the same groceries an adult does.
Now my sons small herd can piggyback off the economy of scale of our feedlot when the time comes to feed them. TMR of exactly the needed calories is what will be provided. Funny enough they'll never have hay. Hay is too expensive. Distillers grain and corn stalks will be the bulk of the ration maybe some corn silage to balance it out but like I said we're piggybacking off the economy of scale on other parts.
