nc ks | Kudos. Sounds like you have it figured out. I am just explaining my experience with truckers in various setups and I much prefer the guy showing up in a nice freightliner 3 times a day and hauls 1000bu vs. the pete guy that shows up 2 times a day and hauls 800 bu. and makes me crank up my auger to clear his stacks and then keeps me in the scalehouse for 10 extra minutes talking about nothing after we already went around in circles 3 times because he didn't get his weight correct.
The fact is....a successful professional grain hauler is going to likely have a cheaper and lighter truck and know his stuff because he's been doing it awhile. The guys that waste money and time aren't going do it long enough to get good at it unless there is another money stream somewhere subsidising the truck.
We as farmers subsidise a lot of stuff simply because we want it. That is fine. Just don't tell me that spending 80k for a semi that you feel obligated to put a 50k engine in if it blows is better than spending 20k for a very comfortable nice truck that if the engine blows you go get another 20k truck and rinse and repeat.
If running a pete makes you feel superior to us bottom feeders, more power to you. Doesn't necessarily make you seem smart though.
