Subject: RE: How much to rent neighbor's pivot?

East Central, Nebraska
i would check around to see if it is possible. i am in an area where the option to add irrigated acres has almost closed up but not entirely. in our most severe area people are selling the irrigation rights of farms and its bringing a couple thousand dollars an acre just for the opportunity, no equipment no wells just the opportunity. then 30 miles south people are still adding wells and pivots no problem. makes no sense.

anyhow, our nrds (natural resource districts) every year are adding rules and regulations. requiring irrigation monitoring, water usage, nitrogen management, and certifications being required. its getting real fun around here. point is i would do your homework before you move forward. its a lot more fun to get the facts first because now with satellite imagery your not going to hide it.

if i were going to rent a pivot and well again i would do it per acre per pass. i would figure out what what a one inch pass means to you and pay accordingly. flat rates can get messy when it doesnt need to be used for a couple years or you get a year where it needs to be used multiple more times than normal.
