Subject: JD 8400 Steering Cylinder Replacement

The steering cylinders on our 1997 John Deere 8400 tractor are shot. They are leaking oil like crazy. A couple other farmers in the area have had the same problem and tried rebuilding them multiple time to no avail. They say it last a year and then starts leaking again, It's better just to replace them and be done. With that being said, the OEM cylinders are $560 with the aftermarket cylinders being $300. Seems like an obvious decision to buy the aftermarket part except when you look at it. The aftermarket cylinders don't have the same input holes as the ones on our tractor now. I tried contacting the manufacturer to see if they had pictures of them installed or any sort of diagram and they don't have anything helpful. I'm just wondering if anyone has used these cylinders and can explain or send pictures on how to plumb them so that they work.

Below I have attached pictures of the cylinders on our tractor and the aftermarket ones.

Thanks for any help!
