Northeast, Nebraska | not all liquid fertilizers are available to the plant this year. You have to make sure it is an ortho for it to be immediately available to the plant. Otherwise, it isn't any different than putting dry down unless you are putting it in the dirt. The reason it takes dry so long to become available is it has to get down into the soil to the microbes to put it into the ortho form. If you are putting on top of the soil, like no till, it will take a long time to become available as the most it will move in the soil is less than a 1/4" per season. If you are doing tillage, then spread your dry before the tillage pass. That's what I do in my program. Every field will be different on how long it will take to make that nutrient available to the plants. I personally like to get it in the ground for p and k. Nitrogen and sulfer can move rapidly through the soil depending on the soil type and how fast water can flow through it. I apply my nitrogen on top and water it in with pivots. There is no one size fits all way to apply fertilizer
