South Central NE | One of my best friends was caught up in one of these situations. He was one of two officers dispatched to a domestic dispute scene. Perpetrator shot his partner dead at the scene with a shotgun. My friend also took a blast to his torso and spent months in the hospital afterwards. This was 45 years ago and he still suffers from guilt asking why his partner died and he didn't. Still carries around pellets from the blast. Lost a thumb from a defense move. Lots of long lasting medical damage. And so unnecessary. But overall I would say he has adapted, retired from a great career and has a wonderful family. | |
