Chebanse, IL..... | It was time for our biennial DOT update. Our DOT number ends in odd number (1) and this was our year to update info. I know that in the past I haven't used any of the 3rd party update companies that leave you a text about every day. But when I started to update this time, I was striking out at almost every turn it seems. I'd click on the URLs that looked like they were what I wanted and some error message would pop up about invalid portals, or stuff like that. Nothing wrong w/computer on our end, but rather it didn't seem the online portion was working for DOT. Finally, on some work-around, I got to a DOT site that looked like it was created by a 3rd grade keyboard or beginning computer class.....in 2010. It was all written with red & blue font all run together. A few highlighted URLS were available, but again they would only lead me to an error situation of some type.
After trying for a couple different days I finally threw in the towel and called one of the advertised site from the slew of emails we get re. DOT info. Their online form said it was $60 to update DOT. But, I had no luck with their online site either. Actually couldn't get registered in order to receive instructions on update. Finally talked to a guy on the phone. He said he'd take care of it...no problem. The fee was to be $90. I noted to him the online fee said $60. He said it's been $90 for all the years he's been there. I said OK & gave him info. We have basically no changes so it was an easy task.
He said I'd receive the completed form by email Monday a.m. I hope it works that way! It was a very aggravating situation for what seems should've been easy to accomplish by some big federal agency like the DOT, but no!
So, is it just me or has anyone else had trouble trying to update DOT number online? |
