Subject: Re: if your spouse dies, are you responsible for their medical bills?

Mechanicville, NY
I am a professional Medical Biller/Coder and yes, when a person dies - married or not - if there are extraneous medical bills, the the facility/doctor will file a claim with the estate of the decedent to obtain payment. Whether the patient has died or is still alive, he has been rendered a service and has received care. I know there are many people who feel when the patient dies all bills should be abolished and the doctor/facility should not expect payment but that is incorrect. I am also familiar with the "doctor is so rich he doesn't need it/hospital gets too much money anyway from the governement and rips off patients, etc. etc. argument. It won't hold water.
