I've planted into it before and don't remember any issues. Not sure we have voles here, mice yes, slugs yes but haven't had any trouble with them lately either. Mine was planted with cereal and yes it climbed right up the cereal rye. Planted green with no row cleaners and rolled it down right after planting and then killed. Great corn crop.
