Subject: Planting into hairy vetch...are voles a problem?

Northeast Missouri

1st time planting corn into vetch. Not sure if I'll have everything worked out to plant green for this year. Hopefully I'll be waiting until mid to late May (central Missouri), so not sure what the vetch's maturity stage will look like by then, for rolling it...might end up trying to terminate it with herbicide a couple weeks before planting.

But my question at the moment, is how much of a problem voles are in a vetch cover crop (actually vetch/crimson clover/triticale)? I'd think they could be bad simply because there is so much cover, mostly protected from coyotes and hawks.

Any method for controlling them work? (Guess I haven't heard whether bait, etc. works well.)
