Ours were such that a lot of wind would hit that door, so the full overlap,(meaning it was two layers thick except for a 1/2" gap on each layer), you could not lap at all or just an inch or so and be fine. It comes on a roll and when unrolled it has a "cupping" tendancy so you alternate the cup to create a better seal.
