I believe what you are referring to is "communal property" which basically means anything you & your spouse recieve once you are married belongs to both. Thus goes for debt as well as assests. Most states are "communal property" states though a few are not. I'm no attorney but I doubt if this applies in the situation you are talking about. Plus I suspect somewhere along the line you signed an agreemen twith the care provider to pay your wife's medical billls if she couldn't. Alsmost all I have seen require the spouse to cosign. JMO opioion that has no legal merrit to it
