E.Central MN | I agree that Darnold and the offensive line needs to improve to get the team into the playoffs. The business questions the Vikings mgmt need to ask is #1--who could they hire for QB that would be guaranteed to be better than Darnold, and #2--how much more would that cost/would it be worth it? If the Vikings had a so-so season then it would be easy to dump Darnold and rebuild with their young QB that they acquired in the draft. People forget how many teams don't even get into the playoffs and how few QBs become great players. Yeah, the Vikings likely won't be going to the SuperBowl any time soon, especially when Detroit is performing at the level they are this season. But I'd sooner watch a Darnold led team that has the potential to win a lot of games than watch a team struggle to win half their games with a new young QB that gets schooled by the rest of the NFL veteran teams for the next few years. I was pleasantly surprised how the Vikings went out and acquired free agents to fill in gaps due to injuries, etc this season, I think that's why they finished with the record they had instead of just sitting on their hands and blaming a poor season on injuries. | |
